"Mere Dust"

Undressed and exposed
beautiful words I clutched to my breast
as he memorized each crease
tomorrow traced with precision
I believed in him

He paved the road that led him away
a sacred ceremony embraced
with a forced kiss
and filthy hands
the inevitable laid before me
as each footstep became louder
spitting out remains, bathed in defeat

In the unraveling I scramble for truth
Was it circumstantial amnesia
causing him to forget where he placed
each syllable of love
Or was this a man of disguise
an agenda to deceive and slaughter

In midnight silence
the moon flees past a dead space
where scenes are lustrous
and scars fade into sweet memories
if only for a moment
dreams rekindle the fire

A new sun rises
beating horizons into hindsight
his meaningless words echo
over a slippery image
of a man without honor
and a heart made of...
mere dust
